Day 18: Death Valley National Park

Once we cross into CA, we enter Death Valley proper.

Old Bessie cools herself off on a bluff above the salt flats.

Kinda looks like water, but it's quite the opposite.

Death Valley used to be full of Truffula trees, but despite they Borax's
best efforts, they were all cut down.

Badwater Basin is the lowest point in North America. Elevation -282 feet.

Some bad water in the basin.

Nops reads all about the fascinating bacteria colonies that inhabit Badwater.

T-neck re-creates that Diplodocus herd scene from Walking With
Dinosaurs in his mind.

I'd love to get stranded out there with no water.

Some DV mountains.

The Devil's Golf Course. Every single geological feature out west is named
after the Devil.

Nops is pissed after hitting one into the rough.

On our way out of the Golf Course via dirt road, we see that some poor
jackass lost a hubcap. We laugh and laugh.

Oops! Time for a half-hour trip back to get it!

After a long time driving around after pieces of our car, we decide to
stretch our legs and go for a hike. Old Bessie's outside thermometer says
121 degrees F.

An interesting sand formation that Nops in no way tossed up there himself.

Pleasantly warm out this afternoon, wot old bean?

Hiking in 120 degree heat makes Martinek take dumb vertigo shots.

Plants that could probably grow in the Earth's core.

The road out of Death Valley. That's gotta be like 20 miles right there.

Father Crowley Point, volcanic deposits that make you want to blast Sabbath.
