Tribute to Hype

:  Behind the Mayhem

Welcome to a behind-the-scenes look at the comic based on the zany antics of the XWF e-fed! Here's where I'll feature some of the early designs and comic concepts for Pinfall. So, enjoy the concept art and feel free to shoot me any comments on the OOC Board or on AIM.

This is a before/after view of comic #1, so you can see what it looked like before it went through post production in Photoshop. #1 was actually not the best drawing OR scan, I never even inked it. But through the miracle of PS 7 I was able to make it look halfway decent. One thing to notice, when doing comics like this, are the outlines. Only the characters are outlined in black, which makes them stand out from the background. The first bunch of comics were done by outlining with ink pens, but I've since switched to markers for smoother, bolder lines.

These are some fairly finalized character designs. I later colored these for use on the Profiles page.

Woah momma! Ok this is just the page in the back of my sketch pad I use to doodle, and much of it is XWF related! The two inked characters are the final designs for Sage and Psycho (you can even see a cookie in his un-inked right hand). Between these two you can faintly see early designs for Hemingway Blaze, Pantheon, and Slayer. Beneath Sage you can see REALLY early designs for Psycho, Maniac, and below them Blaze and Slayer. WTF was I thinking...

Here are a few more early character sketches (and an Az-Dar strip wherein Az and Struthio shave Mickey).
The XWF characters are, from left to right, Hemingway Blaze, Maniac, Pantheon, Tammarico, and Bacchae on the bottom.

Two primitive XWF strips. On top, Cole is shocked that Bacchae has returned to fight Slayer, while Tazz insults him.
Bacchae delivers a menacing speech but is shut up as Slayer introduces her to the pointy end of a stake.
On the bottom, we find Psycho and maniac ordering food at Outback Steakhouse. Psycho orders cookies. Maniac sighs.
See, there's a reason I didn't use these ideas.
