Zhejiangopterus linhaiensis

A close relative of Quetzalcoatlus, Zhejiangopterus was a fairly large azhdarchid pterosaur with a 16ft. (5m) wingspan. Like other azhdarchs, Zhejiangopterus had long legs, short wings, and a gigantic head. Unlike Quetz, though, Zhejiangopterus has no evidence of crests atop its skull, though it retains one beneath the beak, probably as a support for the thin, light-weight skull bones. Zhejiangopterus is the most well preserved azhdarch, known from four articulated specimens, so most reconstructions of its relatives are based on Zhejiangopterus material. The big pterosaur was found in China, in the same deposits as the enigmatic bird Yandangornis, which is tentatively reconstructed in the picture.
