Sinovenator changii Described in 2002, Sinovenator provides a solid link between troodonts and dromaeosaurs, a relationship that had previously been disputed. Found in Liaoning, China, Sinovenator is the most primitive known member of troodontidae, and also shares many features with dromaeosaurids (a.k.a. "raptors"). Like its relative Sinornithoides, Sinovenator had unusually long legs, leading to the speculation in this drawing that it could have been a wading fish-eater. The fossil was not preserved well enough to show feather impressions, but based on it's relatives the dromaeosaurs, it certainly had them. A Jeholopterus-like pterosaur is shown flying overhead. |
